Covid 19 restrictions continue to be eased and we now have non-essential shops open and with plans in place to relax the two-metre social distancing which should allow pubs and restaurants to reopen (subject to a raft of new control measures) from July 4th.
This will bring a welcome boost to the tourism and hospitality industry in Cornwall and importantly in our own Parish. It will be good to see the pubs, cafes, campsites and holiday parks in Cubert open again but of course everyone needs to take responsibility for their own social distancing and not putting themselves or others at risk.
In terms of the Cubert NDP, the monthly Steering Group meetings continue with the last meeting on June 1st being held via Zoom and with the next meeting on July 6th also being a “virtual” gathering. What happens after that remains to be seen and will depend on both government guidelines and what SG members feel comfortable with.
Whilst we are more restricted on what we can do in the field, the analysis of the initial survey results is well under way. The two SG members (Andy Jeffery and Calvin Beckford) who have volunteered to collate and interpret the survey findings, are confident they will be in a position to provide summary results to the group ahead of next month’s meeting with a view to the wider group discussing them at the July meeting.
It is these results that will tell us what you want to see in the Cubert Neighbourhood Development Plan and depending on what you say, will determine the direction we take in preparing the plan. So, it is an important milestone in the process. We also have to work out the best way to communicate the results to you.
The other important change to tell you is that there has been a change of chairman of the Steering Group. Gareth Rowe has stepped down due to work and family commitments, but we are delighted that Michael Crisp has “volunteered” to take on the role and this will bring a welcome impetus to the task just as we come out of lock down.
There are thirteen members of the Steering Group and we are all fully committed to the preparation and ultimate adoption of a Cubert Neighbourhood Development Plan.
So; work on the Cubert NDP continues, despite the restrictions. We are always open for new ideas and suggestions and welcome any new faces to the Steering Group. If you would like to become more involved or just want to see what we are up to, then do get in touch.
